On 10/24 Chicago ADAPTers Larry Biondi, Clark Craig, Abla Gharib, Ryan McGraw, Tom Wilson, Curtis Harris, Bob Panther and Cal Montgomery had a conference call with Paul Laurie to ask Rep. Kinzinger to cosponsor the DIA. He was noncommittal but agreed to look into it further and invited us to follow up via email. We asked him to follow up with Sheryl Grossman of NCIL for more information. Paul Laurie did say that Representative Kinzinger supports EMPOWER Care. We pointed out that his support for EMPOWER Care shows that he understands the value of DIA. We shared 3 stories of people who have personally experienced institutionalization.

On August 7, 2018, ADAPT member Cal Montgonery met with Paul Laurie. He appeared unfamiliar with the bill. We went through the entire packet, discussed the reasons we think this bill is in line with Kinzinger's interests, covered Cal's story and one other ADAPTer's story and he asked for a contact number to follow up. Cal left his own and Stephanie Woodward's. Will Schuneman on the front desk continues to be friendly and engaging and to recognize Cal.

On August 5, 2018, ADAPT member Cal Montgomery, having requested a meeting with Mr. Laurie and not heard back, stopped by and spoke to Mr. Schuneman at the front desk. He remembered me from May. I expressed my surprise that Rep. Kinzinget was not on the bill, reiterated that this aligns with his legislative interests on civil rights, health care and veterans issues, and left contact information as Mr. Looser was reported to be out sick. Mr. Schuneman seems like a potential ally -- he seemed receptive in May and again today.

On August 30th, 2018, C4CI sent an email to Paul Laurie (Paul.Laurie@mail.house.gov) asking why is not a cosponsor of DIA and whether the representative would commit to being an initial co-sponsor of DIA if elected to the next Congress.
