On January 16th, E. Jones and J. Young visited this office. As she opened the door, the Rep was standing there and said "Oh, the ADAPT people...you're back!" and said though she was going into a meeting with her legislative Carla McGarvey, that Carla would come out to speak with us. Five minutes later Carla came out and said "I have great news... the Congresswoman will cosponsor!" Ms. McGarvey will reach out once it is official.

Carla McGarvey is the Legislative Director/Chief of Staff and she previously worked in Senator Bill Nelson's office. She is familiar with DIA because of previous visits to Senator Nelson's office.

E. Jones and S. Poost met with Carla McGarvey. Before the meeting the Congresswoman came out and introduced herself. She said that she knew of ADAPT from her time at HHS and had respect for what we do. She said that they would look at the bill but didn't see a reason why they wouldn't cosponsor.

"Congratulations on your victory in the recent election and welcome to Congress. I am writing on behalf of the Disability Community to ask you to become an original cosponsor of the Disability Integration Act. The Disability Integration Act is bicameral, bipartisan legislation that guarantees the rights of disabled Americans to live in freedom by ensuring our right to receive services in our own homes. If you have any questions about the bill I am happy to answer them or you are welcome to look at our web site: http://www.disabilityintegrationact.org/.
We are holding an event in the U.S. Capitol on January 15th to celebrate the bill???s reintroduction. We would like to announce you as an original cosponsor of the bill at the event. Would you please confirm your intention to be an original cosponsor on the legislation? We would be grateful for your leadership in helping ensure that all disabled Americans have the right to live in freedom."

She responded on 1/2/19 and her response was: "Let me take a look. I always supported waivers in that area"
