On 5/31/19, Shantelle sent an email to Desiree Mowry and Nick Seelinger providing info on DIA and asking Senator Blunt to be a champion and Co-sponsor DIA.
As a constituent of Missouri and a ADAPT member, we are asking Senator Blunt to cosponsor the Disability Integration Act (HR.555). Disabled Americans are being denied their Constitutional rights when they are forced into unwanted and expensive institutionalization. DIA will ensure this doesn't continue. To do so, contact Amy Bos in Representative Sensenbrenner's office.

This bill ensures that Disabled Americans are not denied the Constitutional right to Life and Liberty through unwanted institutionalization. This bill is a civil rights bill.

Community based services are more cost effective and shifting from institutional to community based services is shown to contain Medicaid costs. Community based services keep families together.

There is no opposition to this bill. It is supported by the entire Disability Community and over 800 organizations including Paralyzed Veterans of America, the Arc, Association of Programs for Rural Independent Living, the Consortium of Citizens with Disabilities (CCD), the Lutheran Services in America Disability Network, and the National Council on Aging.

This bill does not interfere with how states manage their Medicaid programs but still ensures that Disabled Americans are not denied their inalienable rights. This bill also ensures independence but doesn't force closure of facilities or restrict the opportunity to choose an institutional placement.

If you have any questions about the bill I am happy to answer them or you are welcome to look at our web site: http://www.disabilityintegrationact.org/.

We look forward to Senator Blunt becoming a champion and co-sponsoring DIA.
