On 5/14/19 Sophie Poost received the following email from Joe Lustig:
Hi Sophie,

My apologies I was away from my desk when you called. I can???t seem to find the emails you???re referencing, do you know who sent them? I???m absolutely happy to take a look at the legislation.

Best,

Joe

Sophie responded by forwarding the most recent email that he should have received and also sending the following email:

Hi Joe,

I will check to see if the email address was typed incorrectly by chance. I have copied below one of the emails which was sent on April 26, 2019, and I will forward an additional email which was sent just a week ago. Additionally, I am attaching a one pager on the Disability Integration Act to bring you up to speed. ADAPT members visited your office and spoke with a staffer just today as well as on April 12. You may have been the one they spoke with, but in any case my cohort believed that the meeting went well. We hope you will come to agree with us that the Disability Integration Act is something Congressman Richmond would support, and perhaps when we are all in town next week we can stop by to say thank you to Representative Richmond for the support.

Thank you for your attention to this matter,

Sophie Poost

We spoke to Joe Lustig and Chyna Melton. We followed up from our visit in April but were surprised that Joe had no knowledge of the bill. We asked that he take a look and speak to Congressman Richmond about co sponsoring before the week of the 18th. We are sending an email including Stephanie and Bruce to answer policy questions. Hoping for a quick turn around.

On 5/14/19 Sophie spoke with China on the phone, she said that Joe was unable to take my call and told me to send another email. Sophie sent the following email to Joseph Lustig:

Good Afternoon Joe,

I just spoke with China at your office and she said that you were unavailable to take my call and that I should email you instead. I???m reaching out to you regarding several emails ADAPT has sent you about the Disability Integration Act or DIA. We have not yet received a response from you to the emails ADAPT sent and Congressman Richmond has not signed onto the Disability integration Actyet. It is essential that you review the emails that ADAPT sent you. ADAPT will be in town next week and we would prefer to stop by your office to thank Congressman Richmond for his support. It is crucial that you get back to us about the Representative cosponsoring the DIA before ADAPT arrives in DC.

Thank you for your time,

Sophie Poost

ADAPT spoke to Congressman Richmond's staff. They felt the bill is something the congressman would be interested in. We will follow up by April 17th

Visited office and left packet. Followed up with this email:

Good Morning Joe,

I just stopped by Congressman Richmond's office and the gentleman in the front was kind enough to give me your information.

I am writing to follow up on the Disability Integration Act (HR2472). I believe your office may have already heard from the Louisiana disability rights group Trach Mommas about this important bill. I also left an information packet about the bill at your office for you to review.

The Disability Integration Act is a bill that would assure that disabled and elderly Americans have the right to live in the community instead of being forced to go to nursing facilities if they need help.

The are only four Democrats on the Judiciary Committee who are not yet cosponsors of this bill and Congressman Richmond is the of them (however, Rep. Cicilline recently committed to cosponsor, so it will soon be only 3).

I am in D.C. all day today and until 3pm tomorrow. I would be happy to meet with you for a few minutes about the bill and answer any questions you may have. We would like Congressman Richmond to cosponsor the DIA before session ends and also commit to cosponsoring the bill when it is reintroduced in January.

Thank you,

Stephanie Woodward

On August 30th, 2018, C4CI sent an email to Joseph Lustig (joseph.lustig@mail.house.gov) asking why is not a cosponsor of DIA and whether the representative would commit to being an initial co-sponsor of DIA if elected to the next Congress.
