On 5/3/2019 - Sent third email request to staff Patrick Curran and Michael Yancey - requesting that Rep. Burgess cosponsor H.R. 555.

Met with Patrick Curran - LD to discuss DIA H.R. 555 and how this is a constitutional right also how this will assist those who want to age in place and how this will help veterans. He got this and he was impressed that we got AARP to support the bill. I sent email after my meeting that has the information we discussed and links to the documents he will need to discuss with his Chief of Staff. He would like to see data on TX and the numbers of people this would assist or any stories about who is affected by this. I will follow up with him at the end of next week as the House is on recess this week back in session Monday the 25th. Thanks

Laura Halvorson writes on 1/25/2018 at 4:03PM:
Sheryl met with Burgess staffer Michael Yancey who handles ADA issues and patched Laura in by phone who graduated and lived in Burgess's District. When Laura gave her personal story Michael said his sister also has the same type of muscular dystrophy Laura does. Sheryl and Laura shared their personal stories of institutional bias and risk of nursing home placement, and give info on DIA including cost savings in NCD report.
Michael brought up fraud in HCBS program in TX where people not needing care get services. Laura wants to fact check where they're getting their info on that.
Michael mentioned the Congressman does not sign on to legislation regarding taxes, tweaks Medicaid and Medicare, and other issues related to his position on E&C Committee and Chairman of Subcommittee on Health, but staff will review. Sheryl got contact for healthcare staffer and Laura will follow up.
